Press review – Week of 12 June 2023

This week's press review covers a new proposed legislation that would allow law enforcement officers to activate at distance microphones and cameras on connected devices. Furthermore, the cryptoasset platform Binance, already targeted by the SEC in the United States, is the subject of a preliminary investigation in France, and JPMorgan agreed to settle a class action lawsuit for ignoring warnings about its client Jeffrey Epstein’s illegal activities. Former president Nicolas Sarkozy was questioned by police investigators for allegations of witness tampering. Finally, further house searches have taken place in the case concerning the management of the so-called “Marianne Fund”.
